Dominic Kraemer is a British Baritone based in Amsterdam. He trained at the Dutch National Opera Academy, The Royal Academy of Music and St John's College, Cambridge.
Dominic has a particular passion for contemporary opera and last season made his debut at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden (Berlin) in the International Opera Award-nominated Usher by Annelies van Parijs. Other recent performances include the role of Kees van Dongen in Ritratto by Willem Jeths and Prince Saud al Faisal in Mohammed Fairouz's The New Prince, both for Dutch National Opera. He toured Europe with Alles Klappt, a piece of cutting-edge music theatre by Ondřej Adámek and Katharina Schmidt, commissioned by the Münchener Biennale, and had a role in the hugely successful genre-bending dance-opera, Metamorphosis, by Nicole Beutler, for Operadagen (Rotterdam).
Other, more conventional repertoire, includes Figaro, Le Nozze di Figaro (Dutch National Opera Academy), Boy 2, Trouble in Tahiti (Dutch National Opera), Falke, Die Fledermaus (Bredeweg Festival), Apollo, Orpheus (International Opera Academy) and Poeta, Prima la music e poi la parole (Warmond). After leaving the Royal Academy of Music, Dominic joined Young Artist Programmes both Garsington Festival Opera (Captain, Onegin), Opera Holland Park (Yamadori, Madama Butterfly) and at Mid Wales Opera (Sid, Albert Herring). In London, he has worked with Silent Opera, GO OPERA, and with the International Rameau Ensemble. He also sings regularly with the Dutch philosophical land-art group: Collectief Walden.
Recent concert highlights include a staged concert with the Amsterdam-based collective, House of Makers, for the opening of the Grachtenfestival; a joint recital with Lesley Garrett, opening Harrogate International Festival; Bach's Magnificat and Cantata 157 with Collegium Musicum Bergen, Serenade to Music at the Barbican; Chief Bandit in Don Quichotte at the Queen Elizabeth Hall; Baritone soloist at the London Handel Festival, and solos in Bach Cantata evensongs at St John’s College, Cambridge with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
As a treble Dominic had a wide-ranging career. His operatic roles included: Shepherd Boy, Tosca (Royal Albert Hall); Miles in the Siberian premiere of The Turn of the Screw; Third Boy, The Magic Flute (ENO); and Charlie Bucket in the World Premiere of The Golden Ticket by Peter Ash. He also reached an estimated audience of 20 million worldwide when singing 'O for the Wings of a Dove' for the Queen Mother at her 100th Birthday Pageant at Horse Guards Parade.
